In just two years, PAWS (Pets for the Unhoused Wellness Services) has grown into a trusted and essential community resource. What started as a vision is now a proven program delivering real, measurable impact for pets and the people who love them.
For many families, access to veterinary care can be the difference between keeping a beloved pet or facing heartbreaking decisions. PAWS focuses on prevention, compassion, and access, meeting people where they are and helping pets stay healthy and at home.
This anniversary is about celebrating that progress and ensuring PAWS can continue serving the community in the years ahead.
Funds will be directed where they are needed most to support the goals below.
All donations support PAWS and will be used where they are needed most to help us reach the following goals:
$100,000 Toward a New PAWS Medical Trailer
We currently have $200,000 toward a new PAWS medical trailer. The specialized model we need costs $300,000 and will allow us to expand services, reach more communities, and provide care more efficiently across Sacramento County.
This trailer is critical to meeting clients where they are — especially those who cannot travel long distances for care.
$20,000 to Support Spay/Neuter Through Community Partnerships
Our current PAWS model of scheduling appointments and accepting walk-ups has proven highly successful for our clients, who are often spread out across the county. For those who are able to travel, partnering with Sacramento SPCA’s We Pay to Spay program is a vital solution.
These funds would allow PAWS to provide stipends to cover the heavily reduced spay/neuter fees for high-intake breeds, including Pit Bulls and Chihuahuas, helping prevent future litters and reduce shelter intake.
$50,000 for Lifesaving Dental Care
Many PAWS patients are in urgent need of dental care, which can dramatically affect a pet’s quality of life, overall health, and longevity. Dental procedures for cats and dogs can range from $2,000–$5,000 per patient, depending on severity.
Because the PAWS team is limited in size, we partner with private veterinary practices to provide these procedures. Last year, we were able to complete eight lifesaving dental surgeries, but we currently have a waitlist of 23 patients still in need.
This funding would allow us to address those urgent cases and relieve ongoing pain and infection for pets who have been waiting for care.
Join us in celebrating two years of PAWS by making a donation today. Together, we can reach more pets, improve quality of life, and expand access to care across Sacramento County.
Funds will be directed where they are needed most to support these goals.
