Bradshaw Animal Shelter & Miranda's Rescue FAQs

What is the status of the investigation involving Miranda's Rescue?

The investigation involving Miranda's Rescue remains active and is being led by the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office in partnership with the Humboldt County District Attorney's Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and other assisting agencies. Bradshaw Animal Shelter continues to cooperate fully with the investigation.

What is the current status of Bradshaw Animal Shelter's relationship with Miranda's Rescue?

Bradshaw Animal Shelter ended its relationship with Miranda's Rescue in March 2025 after determining the organization no longer met our standards and expectations. Dogs from our shelter were NOT authorized to be transferred to Miranda's Rescue after March 2025.

Are there still Bradshaw dogs at Miranda's Rescue?

Yes. We have successfully recovered one dog and continue working to bring the remaining two dogs back to Bradshaw Animal Shelter. We remain committed to pursuing every available avenue to safely recover them.

What actions has Bradshaw Animal Shelter taken?

  • Ended our relationship with Miranda's Rescue.
  • Implemented and communicated clear guidance to our rescue partners prohibiting the transfer of dogs from our shelter to organizations that are under active investigation or that do not meet our established rescue partner requirements, including current 501(c)(3) status.
  • Attempted on multiple occasions to retrieve our dogs.
  • Successfully recovered one dog.
  • Served a formal legal demand seeking the return of all remaining Bradshaw dogs and preservation of evidence.
  • Continue working closely with County Counsel and our rescue partners to pursue every available avenue to bring the remaining dogs home safely.

Why has it taken time to bring the dogs back?

The circumstances surrounding these dogs are unique and legally complex. The dogs were not transferred directly from Bradshaw Animal Shelter to Miranda's Rescue. Instead, they were transferred through third-party rescue organizations without the shelter's knowledge or authorization.

As a result, recovering the dogs required us to first identify which dogs had been transferred, gather documentation, and work closely with County Counsel to determine the appropriate legal path forward. This process could not happen overnight.

We have been actively working behind the scenes to identify dogs connected to our shelter, recover them when possible, and pursue every available avenue to bring the remaining dogs back safely. As part of those efforts, Sacramento County has now formally demanded the return of all remaining Bradshaw dogs believed to be at Miranda's Rescue and has initiated legal action to support their recovery.

What is the condition of the dogs that have been identified?

During our visit, staff personally observed the dogs connected to our shelter. At that time, they appeared to be in stable condition with no immediate visible health concerns. We remain committed to bringing them back so they can receive continued evaluation and care.

What will happen once the dogs return?

Each dog will receive a complete medical examination and behavioral assessment to identify any medical or behavioral needs.

Based on those evaluations, individualized care plans will be developed. When appropriate, dogs may participate in professional board-and-train programs to address behavioral needs, build confidence, and help make their transition into foster care or adoption as successful as possible.

Our goal is to provide every dog with the support, training, and resources they need to give them the best opportunity for a positive outcome.

What is Bradshaw's priority?

Our priority is, and always has been, the welfare of the animals. We remain committed to identifying any Bradshaw dogs that may have been transferred without authorization and pursuing every appropriate avenue to bring them back safely.
