Miracle on Bradshaw Rd

Join us for a special holiday adoption event on Sunday, December 17th, during our extended shelter hours of 11am-7pm.

All adoption fees for dogs and cats will be waived.

We're hoping for a Miracle on Bradshaw Road: we want all of our adoptable dogs and cats to find forever homes in time for the holidays! Included in your new pet's adoption is their spay/neuter surgery, up-to-date vaccinations, a microchip, and a 1-year license for Sacramento County residents. Pets adopted during the holiday season will also go home with their very own stocking stuffed with toys and treats!

Don't forget to stop by our holiday marketplace! A host of local vendors will be in attendance with pet-related goodies for you to do some shopping!

How can I find out more information about a particular pet, such as their history or if they get along with kids, cats, or my own dog?

Since most of our pets come to us as strays, we often do not have a lot of information about their prior lives. However, the information that we've observed about them since they have come to our shelter can be seen on their bios on our website.

Often, the best way to learn about a pet is to come meet them yourselves with your whole family to see if they are a match!

We can also facilitate a doggie meeting if you have another dog in your home. We recommend bringing more than one person: one to meet the dog you're interested in adopting and one to wait outside or in your climate-controlled vehicle with your dog. After you've confirmed that it is a match for the two-legged members of your family, our staff will assist in a four-legged meet and greet. If you'd like to introduce your dog to a new dog yourself, we recommend following steps like this.

We cannot test dogs with cats, but we recommend following these steps.

Please speak with our staff or volunteers if you need additional guidance.

What is the adoption process?

Our adoptions are on a first come, first served basis, so if you have your heart set on one specific pet, we recommend arriving before we open so that you can be first in line. Please be sure to bring your ID!

Step 1: Select a pet or pets you're interested in meeting and potentially adopting. You can do this by looking online at our adoptable pets or by walking around our shelter.
Step 2: Fill out an application (dog and cat). You can do this ahead of time and print out, or fill out in person at our shelter.
Step 3: Meet the pet(s) you are interested in and go through our 1-on-1 adoption counseling process with our adoption team. We will go over the pet's history, how to help this particular pet successfully acclimate to your home, and address any questions or concerns you may have.
Step 4: Make it official and take your new pet home!
