Rabies & Vaccinations

Dogs and cats over 4 months must be vaccinated for rabies and licensed in Sacramento County. Cats can also contract and spread rabies.

Vaccine Appointment Availability: Appointments open 14 days in advance and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you see a “no appointments available” message, it may mean that appointments for that date have not opened yet or that all available appointments have already been booked.

Please check back once you are within the 14-day booking window. New appointments will not appear earlier than two weeks in advance.

  • PAWS Mobile Clinic: vaccines, spay/neuter, microchips, supplies for unhoused pet owners

Microchipping

What it is:

  • A microchip is a tiny RFID device implanted under your pet’s skin.
  • It stores a unique ID number, linking your contact info in a searchable database.
  • Does not transmit location, not GPS.

Does it hurt?

  • Similar to a vaccine injection—quick and minimal discomfort.
